PEG-4 Rapeseedamide is a slightly viscous yellow liquid that serves as a thickener for a wide range of cosmetic formulations, both SLES-containing and SLES-free. It is an effective, safer alternative to cocamide DEA for use in cleansing products. Due to ethoxylation, the material is classified as less hazardous under GHS labeling (non-corrosive and with low aquatic toxicity) compared to cocamide MEA or cocamide MIPA thickeners. It is compatible with commonly used surfactants in cosmetic formulations and, due to its liquid form, allows easy processing at room temperature, offering advantages over solid alkanolamides.
When combined with anionic surfactants, it enhances foam control and supports viscosity building. PEG-4 Rapeseedamide effectively minimizes the irritation caused by anionic surfactants while providing strong foam-stabilizing performance and excellent cleansing properties. Owing to its favorable hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB), it also acts as an effective emulsifier in oil-in-water (O/W) systems. Moreover, this ingredient can solubilize significant amounts of oils in surfactant blends with low water content, enabling the development of shower oils with rich foaming properties and leaving a pleasant feeling on the skin after washing. It also facilitates the incorporation of silicones into formulations.
This multifunctional ingredient is suitable for a wide range of personal care products, including liquid soaps, mild facial and body cleansers, shampoos, bath oils, shaving gels, and skin lotions.
