Disodium 2-sulfolaurate is a mild, water-soluble, anionic surfactant available in white powder form, commonly used in cosmetic products like shampoos, conditioners, shower gels, and facial cleansers. It is cold-processable, forms clear formulations and effectively cleanses by removing dirt, grease, and excess sebum while maintaining the skin’s natural protective barrier. While being gentle on sensitive skin and mucous membranes, it is ideal for children’s products and formulations designed to be non-irritating to the eyes. This surfactant creates a creamy, rich micro-bubble foam that remains stable even in hard water or in the presence of vegetable oils.
Disodium 2-sulfolaurate is stable in a wide pH range (3–10) and can withstand heating up to 80 °C, making it easy to use in different formulations. Viscosity strongly depends on pH (specifically on the amount of citric acid), and the material is ideal for lower pH formulations with a range of 4.5–5.5.
