Phenoxyethanol/Ethylhexylglycerin

This broad-spectrum preservative blend combines the trusted protection of phenoxyethanol with the gentle yet powerful enhancement of ethylhexylglycerin, boosting antimicrobial efficacy against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria while delivering excellent fungicidal performance for effective control of molds and yeasts. Together, they ensure safe, reliable preservation while minimizing the amount of preservative required.

The ingredient withstands processing temperatures up to 80 °C and remains effective over a wide pH range of 3–12. It resists discoloration and blends well with most cosmetic ingredients, though care should be taken when used alongside ethoxylated surfactants, which may reduce its efficacy.

In compliance with EU cosmetic regulations, the phenoxyethanol/ethylhexylglycerin preservative system can be used at a maximum concentration of 1.1%, provided that no other ingredient contributes additional phenoxyethanol to the formulation. The typical minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for various microorganisms, including bacteria, yeasts, and molds, is approximately 0.4%.
